The 44th edition of IHGF – Delhi Fair Autumn 2017 signs off with business enquiries worth Rs. 3150 crores, informed Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts in a press release in New Delhi on Monday.

The 44th edition of Indian Handicrafts and Gift Fair (IHGF) 2017 concluded on Monday at India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida contributing significantly both to the exports of handicrafts as well as the promotion of crafts from across India.

The Fair is held twice a year and this year the Autumn Edition of the Fair has surpassed previous Fairs in all respects. The fair is organised by EPCH – Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts.

The display of recycled products such as used containers duly designed as decorative were the centre of attraction all around the venue. This year look of the fair has totally changed from façade to constructing a theme like ceremony area which added a fresh energy in the show.

Ajay Tamta, Hon'ble Mister of State for Textiles, Ministry of Textiles gave away the prestigious Ajay Shankar Memorial Awards for the best designed and displayed stands in six product categories such as Furniture, Furniture Hardware and home accessories, Fashion Jewllery & Accessories, Lamp Lighting and Accessories, Home, Textile, furnishing and Floor Coverings, Christmas Decorative and Festive décor, Houseware, table, kitchenware and hotelware. Three awards were given in each category i.e. Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Speaking on the occasion the Hon’ble Minister said that this fair has attained popularity amongst overseas buyers as mega show for home, lifestyle, fashion, textiles and furniture products under one roof and marketing platform for Indian exporters. Handicrafts sector requires low capital and provide high value addition and largest employment provider sector in the Country.

He appreciated EPCH for organising various informative activities during the show and also for providing marketing platform to products of North Eastern Region, Jodhpur mega cluster and Telengana state.

Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director – EPCH said Last year the number of countries from where the buyers visited the show were 88 and this year it has witnessed over 100 countries from where the buyers have visited.

He further elaborated that the number of exhibitors increased this year to around 3000. With 14 product categories, Autumn edition of IHGF-Delhi fair inspired and enthused the exhibitors with visit of large number of buyers to source home, lifestyle, fashion, textiles and furniture +2000 products. The business energy at the fair was stimulating as the buyers seen negotiating and placing orders in every product category during five days extravaganza.

Overseas buyers’ and their Representatives participation increased from 5586 last year to 5995 this year representing a healthy increase of 7.32% supported by 765 domestic trade visitors, the Fair generated business enquiries to the tune Rs 3150 crores this year representing an increase of around 6.78% over the last year.

The Handicrafts exports during the year 2016-17 was Rs.24,392.39 crores with overall 13.15% increase in comparison to last year. However, the exports of handicrafts during six months of the current financial year 2017-18 is Rs. 12520.32. This Fair has become a major marketing platform to boost exports of small and medium entrepreneurs of the handicraft sector.

संस्था के प्रमुख श्री मयंकश्रीवास्तव ने विषय प्रस्तावना मेंबताया कि वर्तमान मेंअंतरराष्ट्रीय परिदृश्यों में कालीनउद्य® में बाज़ार में मानवीयमुद्द® का भी बहुत महत्व हैभारतीय कालीन  केवल अंतरराष्ट्रीय बाज़ार में ही अपनीअलग पहचान बनाये हुये हैंबल्कि स्थानीय  जनजीवन मेंभी बिल्कुल घुले मिले हुये हैंसभी सहमत थे कि अन्तराष्ट्रीयबाज़ार को ये भी समझाने कीआवश्यकता है कि एक कालीनके बिकने से कितने घरों केचूल्हा जलता है चर्चा इस बातपर भी हुयी की अंतरराष्ट्रीयबाज़ार को ये भी समझानाचाहिये कि भारतीय उत्पादकप्राकृतिक कच्चे माल का प्रयोगइस तकनीकी युग में कितनाअधिक कर रहे हैंजो पर्यावरणके लिये हितकारी है

स्लाइड शो के ज़रिये भेड़पालक की कठिन ज़िन्दगीघरके सदस्य की तरह उसकापालन पोषण आदि को भीदर्शाया गया विदित है कि भेड़से प्राप्त ऊन की 80 प्रतिशततक खपत भारत के कालीनउद्योग करते हैं भेड़ के संवर्धनपर भी प्रयास किये जाने चाहिये,सब एक मत से इसके पक्ष मेंथे

वरिष्ठ निर्यातक श्री कमरूद्दीनजी ने कहा कि भारतीय कालीनसभी मानकों पर खरा उतरता हैऔर ईराकतुर्की,अफ़गानिस्तान जैसे देशों मेंबनाये जा रहे कालीनों कीतुलना में बेहतर है देवनाथपुरसे आये निर्यातक श्री दीपवरनवाल जी ने न्यूज़ीलैण्ड सेआने वाले कच्चे माल कीआपूर्ती में चीन की भूमिका परचिन्ता व्यक्त की निर्यातक श्रीतनवीर हुसैन जी ने ब्राण्डबिल्डिंग की उपयोगिता कोरेखंाकित किया और इसकोकरने में आने वाले व्यय  अन्यसुविधाओं की सरकार से अपेक्षाकी निर्यातक श्री मज़हरअंसारी जीश्री आज़ाद अहमदअंसारी जीश्री रनवीर साहनीजी के प्रतिनिधिश्री संजयश्रीवास्तवश्री अजीत चतुर्वेदी,श्री अनुज श्रीवास्तवश्री संजयमाथुरश्री राम आश्रयश्रीअशफ़ाक आदि ने अपने विचारव्यक्त किया

290 Overseas carpet buyers from around 60 Countries and 312 Buying Representatives/ Buying Houses  attended India Carpet Expo, 10-13 October, 2017

Carpet Export Promotion Council organized the 34th India Carpet Expo and    13th in Varanasi in the Ground of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University Ground at Varanasi from 10-13 October, 2017, with an aim to promote the Cultural Heritage and showcase the weaving skills of Indian hand-knotted carpet artisans amongst the overseas hand-knotted carpet buyers. 

India Carpet Expo which was inaugurated on 10th October, 2017 by Hon’ble Minister of State for Textiles Shri Ajay Tamta in the gracious presence of                   Smt. Sushmita Maurya, MLA, Majhawan, Distt. Mirzapur, Shri Shantmanu, IAS, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ms. Nidhi Mani Tripathi, IAS, PS to Hon’ble Minister of State for Textiles, Media & Participants. Mr. Mahavir Pratap Sharma, Chairman, CEPC alongwith Members of the Committee of Administration was declared closed today in a Closing Ceremony by Shri Virendra Singh, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Bhadohi.

Shri Ravindra Jaiswal, MLA, North City, Varanasi and Mr. Amit Kumar Singh, Dy. DGFT, Varanasi also marked their presence in the Expo.

Shri Ajay Tamta, Hon’ble Minister of State for Textiles said, “Handmade Carpet Industry holds No. 1 Status in terms of value & quantity in export of handmade carpet. We are very glad that CEPC organizes this Expo twice every year to promote Indian weavers worldwide. Every year Expo generates huge amount of businessWe assure our support to the carpet industry for their efforts for the betterment of small Manufacturers and artisans"

Shri Virendra Singh, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Bhadohi in his press briefing mentioned that Carpet weaving is a traditional heritage  and identity of our country and there is a need to preserve the same. Weaving is not a full time job and our farmers are doing weaving work in their spare time to supplement their income. Present Government has taken various initiatives and lunched various schemes in this regard e.g. weavers pension, Mudra loan, Honorarium to the artisans under various Handicrafts Schemes and motivating the younger generation to have their own business. Shri Virendra Singh ji mentioned that  in his recent visit to Ethopia in a delegation with Hon’ble President of India,  he see the Indian Carpets but the same was imported from some other country instead of India and  therefore,  stressed on the need to develop new markets in which products of India are  in use and demand but not exported directly. 

            Mr. Mahavir Pratap Sharma, Chairman, CEPC mentioned that this fair gives new heights to the industry and update the changing trends to the entrepreneurs. Such type of Expo on the one hand increase the coordination between the fellow exporters and on the other hand to analyze the world market requirements.

            In this expo exhibitors developed new designs and experimented new innovations. In this distinct  Expo the participation of Women entrepreneurs has increased alongwith new exporters.  

            The Chairman of CEPC Mr. Mahavir Pratap Sharma, said according to the feedback received till now over 2859 enquiries and almost Rs. 337.24 Crore business generated from the 4 day Expo which shall be executed in the coming months. This expo will lead to opening up of new market opportunity for the industry and shall help small and Medium Indian carpet exporters in promoting their products to overseas countries. Eventually, this ongoing process, on a broader scale, is instrumental in projecting” Make in India Brand” in overseas markets. Government has set up a target of US $ 1592 million carpets & floor covering export for the fiscal year 2017- 2018, which he said shall be achieved. He further said India carpet expo is an ideal platform for International Carpet Buyers, Buying houses, buying  Agents, Architects and Indian Carpet Manufacturers & Exporters to meet and establish long term business relationship. For the first time 60 countries participated in the expo, where buyers form countries like Afghanistan, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, U.A.E., U.K., U.S.A. etc.”

The Carpet Export Promotion  Council showcased  the products of more than 270 reputed small, medium and large manufacturer exporters from all over country viz U.P., Rajasthan, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh etc.  290  overseas carpet buyers visited the expo to generate business for this rural based cottage sector. It is the endeavor of the Council to provide exclusive business environment to the both carpet importers as well as manufacturer-exporters, which ultimately will benefit about  2 million weavers and artisans employed in this highly labour intensive rural based MSME cottage industry.

            The Organizer of the fair i.e. CEPC mentioned that in the current recessionary trend the presence of 290 Overseas Buyers from all over the world in India Carpet Expo establish the status of India Carpet Expo and demand of Indian Products in International Market. 

Shri Mahavir Pratap Sharma, Chairman, CEPC expressed that this event will be beneficial to the Medium and  small exporters who can’t afford to display their products in overseas Exhibitions on the one hand and on the other hand show the capability of India in producing and supplying quality products in time. Chairman, Vice-Chairmen and other Members of the COA, CEPC expressed happiness and congratulated Shri Subodh Kumar Gupta, Acting Executive Director-cum-Secretary and all Staff Members of the Council for their strenuous  and untiring efforts  to make the fair a Grand Success. 

Council announced the date of next India Carpet Expo from  8-11  March,  2018  in NSIC Exhibition Complex, Okhla Industrial Area,  New Delhi.
